Tips on How to Pack Items During a Move

Relocation can be a very tasking and fractious time in your life, and packing your belongings can be one of the most challenging tasks. Since you declutter and get rid of items, you don't even need, and now you'll likely find more junk than you can probably imagine.

We have put together the most competent tips to keep your most delicate things, the ones that can break or get scratched, which can often be the trickiest.

Prepare a "Fragile" Box

You're going to want to use a firm, durable moving box and not something that breaks or bends easily. Fill the base portion of the " delicate" box with the bundling paper to give your things a delicate pad. It tends to be better for fragile things to pack them in a small box, for example, a shoe box before they are pressed in a moving box. Don't forget; you will want to seal the bottom and inside the seams of the box with pieces of tape for added protection before padding your items. Some moving companies provide moving boxes of all types of sizes, from small – large, through a loan program. Loan programs are a means for people to rent boxes but be able to return it as long as the box is in excellent condition.

Start with the Essentials

It will be a wise plan to have an "essentials" box. This box will include items that you can use in the first few days of your stay in your new home. This box should include, toiletries, clothes, and beddings. It can also include snacks, kitchen utensils, and dining items.

If you will be dining out during the first few days of your stay in your new home, you don't need a lot of items for the kitchen. However, if you want to cook right away, include knives, pans, and other preparation tools in your essentials box.

Allot space for adequate packing

Manage to keep all your packing supplies, including packaging paper, scissors, boxes, tape and bubble wrap, within reach. One tip for packaging, especially for fragile items, is instead of packing them on a table or hard surface pack them on the floor. This is to prevent scratches that might be caused by the undesirable surface. There are various options for packaging your fragile items. We recommend the bubble wrapping technique for glass items such as vases or pitchers.

Guide for using bubble wrap

  1. Collect all the supplies you might and will need. Measure the size of your item, Put the piece of carton down and place the thing on top. Use your scissors to cut the cardboard, make sure it wraps around the entire item with an allowance of a few inches.
  2. Get your bubble wrap and Put the bubble wrap between the carton and the fragile piece. Don't forget to put it next to the fragile item with the smooth side touching the object and the bubble side on the outside.
  3. Tightly wrap the piece with bubble wrap, ensure that everything is covered
  4. Place the wrapped item on the edge of the carton and roll it until the carton is overlapping.
  5. The fragile piece should not be seep out of the box. Wrap the cardboard packet as tightly as you can several times.
  6. Finally, place the item safely in the cushioned box and fill in those spaces to prevent movement. This last step is optional; you can roll the carton package up in more than one layer of bubble wrap and tape the box again for additional protection on particularly fragile items.
